Red-skinned he comes
On the eve
Of that very special birthday
With seven-foot boxes
To shadow that tree.
A lump of coal
Is given to all who will not look
Beyond the idols,
The lights and tinsel
On the tree.
And on that day
When not one more Christmas
Is to come,
They will drop their coal in the fire
Down below.
The night was very dark and bitterly cold -
Just a little warmer inside.
Looking out I wondered if the night
Was as hungry as me
Before it devoured the light.
All light could not satisfy
The aching void within me.
Steak, a 10 ounce rib eye -
Tender, juicy and glistening,
Meaty scents rising high,
Making my mouth water
Almost as much as my eyes,
In happiness to witness such majesty
Awesome in weight and size
To be my stomach’s evening prize -
That might do the trick.
A young waitress approaches hastily,
The giant plate she extends
(Oh, the size it must be!)
Her lips move as it descends.
Spoken words were not heard.
All senses were entr
What do you do up there
When you are on my mind?
It feels like you tickle the neurons
With a feather
Or maybe your long golden hair.
It makes me smile
From cheek to cheek.
My face wrinkles so much
I resemble a happy pug.
For freedom,
I do this.
Sinking the shovel
Into the earth,
Pushing it deeper
With my foot,
Breaking the surface
And lifting the dirt,
Watching the soil
Spill over and fall
Back into place.
The earth is now ready to receive
My unwanted treasure.
Falling to my knees,
I take the knife from my pocket.
My hand shakes
And my heart pounds.
I inhale,
Filling my lungs with the courage to do this.
I exhale and strike it through
My
Skin.
It feels... strangely warm.
I sever every cord
That binds us,
And tear you
From my chest.
I grip the putrid lump,
Still spewing poison
Upon my face
From its broken arms.
Before I release
Teeth snapping,
Locking,
Grinding, lips
Pushing,
Pressing, nose
Flaring,
Rising, brow
Slamming,
Creasing, eyes
Narrowing, intensely
Burning a passage through the skull
For words to flow
As the ears are not
Listening.
You stand tall
A high horse
With your blinkers on
And your hooves set
In the only track your blinkers
Let you see.
Flick those ears to the side,
Lower the crest,
Remove your blinkers and see
There are many tracks
Printed with many hooves,
And all are of equal passage.
With a sharp whip of the tail
You stun a cleg on your haunch
And walk on,
Believing that the grass is greener
On your
We come close
To share our first kiss,
Our lips touch
And I ascend
Into utter bliss.
I soar like an eagle
Soaking in the golden day,
I lend you my hand
And you step up
Onto our cloud to stay.
You lie in my arms
Resting against a cherry blossom tree
To the sound of beautiful birdsong
With soft pink petals on us,
And you on me.
But then we break off,
Our lips part,
And our cloud tears in two
And the ferocious ball of fire
Spits and sparks fire
And ignites our clouds
Forming a vicious inferno
And clouds of ash.
Just then, two hands grab my ankles.
They are two cold, dry, hard hands
And I've felt their grip before.
They
